Wow. My heart goes out today. If you're local then I'm sure you've heard Joplin, MO (just a few hours away) took a direct and kind of sudden hit from a tornado yesterday evening. We had the pleasure of photographing the weddings of two Joplin couples last year. Even though their weddings are past, we consider these guys friends (as we do with all our brides and grooms) and when I heard, I immediately thought of them. However, it wasn't until this morning when I saw all the destruction on TV that my heart really broke for them.

I facebooked both Shannon and Andrea and thankfully both couples are safe! Shannon said stuff two houses down from them is destroyed and while Andrea and Ty were out of town, her mom was working at St. John's Hospital when it was hit. She is safe as well. Thank God! Also, the sanctuary where we photographed their wedding is no longer standing. Even in all the pain and destruction (89 confirmed dead as of this morning and hundreds missing). I pray God will bless the community and the people there in and through this.

Here's the happy couples!

Shawn+Shannon and Ty+Andrea (again, so thankful they're safe and sound!)
Living in Kansas, I know we take these storms for granted. I for one tend to get giddy at the thought of a storm. Even though we've seen them go horribly wrong time and time again, we still venture outside to check out the sky. We forget that sometimes they hit more than just empty fields. Sometimes they come unexpectedly, sometimes they destroy homes, businesses - community staples, and sometimes they take lives.

Today, we're thankful our friends are OK, that we have a home and jobs to go to, that we're safe. I so wish everyone could say the same. Join us in praying for the communities affected by yesterday's storms.
