Frequently Asked Questions

Where will we do my shoot?

We’re on-location, natural light photographers and will help you find the perfect place(s) to complement your photo session. We might go to an open field, parking lot, grassy hill, colorful alley, or even your home! It all just depends on the style of pictures you are wanting.

What should we wear?

As with locations, it all depends on the mood you want to create. For seniors and engagements, we suggest colorful outfits that just scream “you”. Maybe a summer dress with cowboy boots, a vintage t-shirt and chucks, a bright shirt with a jacket, jeans and heels or even Nike shorts and a ball cap. It’s nice to have a mix of dressy/trendy/casual…whatever you feel your best in is what makes the best photos.

For babies and children we suggest brightly colored outfits that make the pictures pop! Solids are great — mixed with one or two prints. Babies look great butt-naked, swaddled, or with a cute hat and fun diaper cover.

Family session? Choose colors that look good together but that aren’t matchy-matchy. Matching perfectly isn’t always realistic and we want to capture your family how you are in the real world!

How long will the photo session last?

Our portrait sessions typically last between one and two hours depending on the situation. We always allow time for clothing changes, travel to new locations, and feedings/diaper changes.

When can I see the pictures?

Within a few days after the session (usually within a week but not more than two) we will post your proofing gallery on our online ordering system. You will receive an e-mail letting you know that’s been done along with the link and sign-in information. These photos will have basic edits applied only. Any prints you choose to order will be edited to top-notch quality. We’ll also blog a few of our favorites from your session!

When is my payment due?

For weddings, we ask that 25% be paid up front in order to reserve your wedding date. The remaining balance is due a week before the event.

For portraits, bring your payment fee with you to your session.

If you’re shooting our wedding, do we have to get engagements done too?

Technically, no, but an engagement session is included in all our wedding packages. It’s really a complementary service. We include engagement sessions in our wedding packages because we think it’s crucial for us to meet you and work with you prior to your big day. This helps ensure that you are comfortable with us and know what to expect from us come wedding time. Plus, we can build your confidence in us as photographers AND it’s fun! It’s a win-win.

I’ve heard you suggest “first sights” for weddings. What is that and why should I do it?

We strongly suggest our brides and grooms have a “first sight” moment prior to the ceremony, however we have couples who prefer not to take this route and that is perfectly ok too. It’s really a personal preference. A “first sight” is basically a way to allow for seeing each other before the wedding while still keeping it special. Typically, we take the bride and groom away from the crowd of people that’s inevitably watching and have him close his eyes, turn around, etc… Then, the bride comes in looking all stunning, his heart melts and it’s an awesome moment. We recommend this because:

  • Seeing each other before the ceremony takes some of the edge off and helpsyou be more relaxed the rest of the day.
  • It’s great to share that special moment privately instead of in front of a crowd.
  • The groom almost always has a more genuine reaction and says beautiful things to his beautiful bride.
  • We can capture amazing images of this moment. They’ll be so full of emotion you’ll remember that feeling forever. Ah.
  • It allows for plenty of time to do portraits of the two of you, your wedding party, etc… AND allows you to be part of your reception.
  • We did this very thing and don’t have a single regret. In fact, some of my favorite photos from the day came from our “first sight.”
